The Members:

• Dr. Melissa Nursey-Bray (bio):

Churchill Fellow 2001, BA (Hons), M Env St, PhD, Grad Cert In University Learning and Teaching.

Dr. Melissa Nursey-Bray is the Director of the Social Science for Climate Change Research Network. She has a diverse work history having worked in Northern Australia for 11 years for government, Indigenous peoples, as a consultant and ENGOs  in the area of Indigenous resource management.

She was a Councillor and on the Executive of ACF for 8 years during 1996 - 2004. Melissa also worked in South Australia as a policy officer developing South Australia’s first marine protected area, and subsequently for the CSIRO as a Senior Research Scientist overseeing a research project on property rights in the Australian Outback.

This experience has consolidated Melissa’s interest in marine and coastal management and the need to reconcile social justice with conservation imperatives in environmental planning - whether in Indigenous or non Indigenous contexts.

Melissa currently works as a lecturer in social science for the National Centre for Marine Conservation and Resource Sustainability which is part of the Australian Maritime College, University of Tasmania.

Melissa established the SSCCRN with the view that bringing the social dimensions into climate change management and planning is a key challenge in implementing effective climate adaptation policies.
